Voluntary Transfer Request Form –SUMMER SCHOOL

 

The Summer School Teacher position will support the 2024 Summer Academy program, which will take place from June 24 -July 19, 2024, excluding July 4 and 5th. Instruction will occur at Marcus Whitman Middle School on a Monday through Thursday schedule from 8:45 - 12:30 PM.  

 

The selected candidate will work up to 71 hours to meet the needs of this program (not to exceed 71 hours) and will be compensated at their per diem rate of pay, inclusive of benefits, to be distributed on the August 2024 payroll. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:

 

• Days of Instruction = 56 hours (16 days of student instruction x 3.5-hour commitment per day)
• Scheduled Orientation Hours = 6 hours (tentatively scheduled on June 20^th and/or June 21^st
• Unscheduled Preparation Hours = 6 hours (to be determined by employee)
• Data Collection = 3 hours

Teaching positions will be based on enrollment and may remain unfilled, or canceled, if enrollment is insufficient for the program to be operational.

 

The primary learning focus is credit recovery.  The content areas for in-person course offerings with be English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, and Science. Anticipated courses include Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra, Physical Science, ELA 9-12, and US History. However, all course offerings will be based on student need for credit retrieval.

 

Professional Qualifications:

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate;
• Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
• Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the middle school level; and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading skills;
• Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods;
• Demonstrated knowledge of new technologies and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs;
• Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and district goals;
• Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self and others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of students that have been identified as struggling academically over the course of the summer program;
• Modifies instructional support to meet individual student needs in order to accelerate learning to close skill/knowledge gaps;
• Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement designed instruction to achieve learning goals;
• Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;
• Reports student progress to parents and Summer School Principal;
• Maintains student records in a timely, orderly fashion;
• Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology;
• Participates in Summer School professional development orientation;
• Participates in meetings, as needed;
• Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
