This is a 1.0 FTE continuing  position beginning with the 2018-2019 school year.  Preference may be given to those applicants who are eligible and willing to hold a continuing contract. 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

This teaching position serves at Burley-Glenwood Elementary, dedicated to building a strong community of students, and parents where children are successful in a safe and supportive learning environment and all members of the community are welcomed, valued and respected. The Burley-Glenwood staff is constantly learning new and innovative methods that will challenge our students and enable them to achieve.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of students over a period of years.
  • Modifies instructional programs to meet individual student needs.
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement a course of instruction designed to achieve required academic learning standards in all curriculum areas.
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior.
  • Ability to collaborate in the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a Spanish language and culture elementary program.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with students and their parents who are culturally, racially, and linguistically diverse and report student progress to parents regularly.
  • Maintains student records, including daily grades, essential learnings data, cumulative records, orders, inventory, and other records, in a timely, orderly fashion.
  • Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology.
  • Participates in child guidance discussions to provide appropriate programs for the developmental level of each student.
  • Participates in team and individual instructional planning, which includes writing daily lesson plans.
  • Participates in staff meetings, planning events, and department/unit meetings.
  • Participates in total building program, including assemblies, contests, and other student activities.
  • Works cooperatively with total building staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate for elementary grades. Bilingual proficiency in (Spanish and English) oral and written skills required. Native Spanish speaker preferred.
  • Ability to teach elementary content in Spanish, to integrate the teaching of content area vocabulary, and to teach students to use language correctly through the content.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with or willingness to acquire knowledge of language immersion models and curriculum.
  • Advanced level proficiency in ACTFL written and oral assessments.
  • Cultural competency and ability to move comfortably in a diverse community.
  • Extended travel or residence in Spanish speaking countries, and familiarity with the linguistic and cultural diversity of the Spanish speaking world preferred.
  • Understanding of Common Core State Standards (CCSS), Grade Level Expectations (GLE's), Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs), and English Language Development Standards (ELDS).
  • Commitment and ability to work with a full range of students including gifted, mainstreamed special education, English language learners students.
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods by participating in classes, workshops, in-service, peer coaching, reading, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of new technology and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs.
  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others.
