Summary: The Assistant Superintendent of Student Achievement is the visionary leader who will model educational excellence, equity, and service in South Kitsap School District. The Assistant Superintendent has overall leadership responsibility for district-wide teaching and learning with a direct connection for the innovation, provision, and excellence of secondary learning. This position is responsible for school improvement, curriculum & instruction, innovative programs, and the support required to ensure high student achievement. This position leads the development, implementation, and creation of resources to support student achievement for each student. This position serves as an advisor to the Superintendent and as an Executive Team member.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides dynamic, forward-thinking, skillful leadership in overseeing the Teaching & Learning division by developing and sustaining a District culture focused on the District’s Priority Plan, student learning, equity, and employee professional growth to improve learning and achievement for each student;
- Provides visionary, collaborative leadership in the area of Secondary education for continuous improvement and support of instruction for grades 6-12;
- Offers guidance and direction for the improvement of student achievement in grades 6-12 district wide. Develops, arranges, and implements assistance for schools with low student achievement and executes continuous improvement for all schools;
- Collaborates with the Superintendent and Executive Team, along with stakeholders to respond to diverse community interests and needs;
- Provides sound, collaborative management of assigned departments to ensure a safe, effective learning environment with a focus on the District’s Priority Plan and continuous improvement;
- Oversees the Executive Director of Teaching and Learning – Elementary, the secondary school leadership team, CTE, ELL, assessments, curriculum, special education, Federal grants and programs, athletics, and activities;
- Promotes and communicates the District vision and Priority Plan by effectively communicating teaching and learning efforts across the district to various stakeholders to ensure initiatives are successfully implemented;
- Supervises personnel, ensures sound management of assigned departments to ensure a safe and effective learning environment, analyzes data/outcomes, provides for professional growth and achieves the objectives of the District’s instructional program;
- Oversees the evaluation and procurement of district instructional materials; collaborates with the district’s Information Technology Department for the requisite convergence of technology-based learning tools and needs;
- Develops and coordinates district budgets, ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations;
- Collaborates with the Superintendent and Executive Team, along with stakeholders to respond to diverse community interests and needs;
- Facilitates communication between staff, students, and/or parents to evaluate situations and resolve conflicts;
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with District leadership, colleagues, parents/guardians, students, and the community of South Kitsap;
- Attends and presents on behalf of the District at Board meetings, community meetings, and others;
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Current administrative credential and valid teaching certificate;
- Successful experience as a Teacher and Administrator in public schools, with Secondary Principal experience preferred;
- Requisite education and experience to successfully perform the duties required;
- Demonstrated successful, recent leadership experience overseeing and implementing a variety of District-wide programs, preferably in a secondary setting or overseeing secondary education;
- Proven ability to articulate a vision, direction, and leadership in academic achievement, curriculum, instruction, and systems innovation;
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and work effectively with diverse stakeholders within the school system and community;
- Demonstrated leadership and experience in supervision and evaluation of staff;
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong analytical skills and abilities to scope and solve problems;
- Demonstrated leadership in supervision, budgeting, planning, organization, goal setting, and results;
- Passion for building a positive culture and developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships;
- Demonstrated ability to create and implement new systems or changes through collaborative efforts to enhance adoption and minimize resistance;
- Plan, execute, and manage strategic priorities from inception to conclusion;
- Acts with integrity in upholding, modeling, and establishing accountability for high professional and ethical standards.
Education and Experience:
- Current teaching certificate and requisite education/experience for the position
- Experience in public K-12 academic leadership
Clearances:
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Certificates:
- Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business).
- First Aid and CPR Certification may be required after hiring.
